Community Outreach and Support

It is SLS’s privilege to serve the community by being actively involved in the following community organizations:


Mental Health Court (Putnam County)

SLS Residential offers assistance and recommendations to court and community providers on cases. SLS Residential provides scholarships thorugh the court to cases on ’as needed’ basis. Three participants received SLS scholarships over the past year.



Jail Group (Putnam County Correctional Center)

SLS Members visit Putnam County Correctional Facility and have discussions with inmates. Inmates provide advice on not continuing on a negative path and members provide encouragement and support to inmates on changing the outlook of their individual situations. Visits are a win-win for both inmates and members.


Putnam Community Action Program

SLS Residential donates food, and SLS staff and member time to cook, prepare and serve meals to the homeless in the community one day per week.




Community Garden

SLS staff and members care for a plot of land thereby learning about gardening in an outdoor activity. The grown food is donated to the community.




Guiding Eyes for the Blind

SLS members and staff walk and feed animals, clean cages and prepare welcome bags for new recipients of guide animals.




Putnam Humane Society

SLS members and staff walk dogs, clean cages and feed animals.




Kent Recycling Center

SLS Residential recycles!. Collected recycled items are donated weekly and SLS staff and members also help to sort recycled items.




GoodWill Industries

SLS staff and members help organize and sort clothing and merchandise items in support of the Goodwill mission..





Tilly Foster Farm

SLS staff and members feed animals, bathe animals, clean stalls, and walk horses.



Putnam Ridge Nursing Home

SLS staff and members working in the dietary and laundry departments, socialize with residents, help feed residents and handle various clerical responsibilities.
